Mistakes That Keep You From Your Wellness Goals

A common definition of wellness is: “an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life".

Wellness…is a "dynamic process of change and growth”.

This sounds like something all of us would want to strive towards, yet it can be a challenging journey and even more challenging to stay with for the long haul.

We at Wholeshift Wellnes have worked with hundreds of clients to help them achieve their goals of fitness and wellbeing.

We have also witnessed a number of common and recurring mistakes which hinder success and slow the process.

There are seven mistakes which we have seen repeated time and again and they are in our series of weekly blogs.

Awareness is the first and most fundamental step towards change so I recommend you notice if these mistakes seem familiar to you.

If they are familiar, acknowledge them and experiment with some of these ideas that could change your life.

Mistake 1 - You are not getting started

Yes: so simple yet so hard to do.

Getting started is truly the most common struggle we see in people who want to improve their wellbeing.

Most of us have a pretty clear idea of what doesn't work in our lives.

We may even know a thing or two about what we need to do to improve it.

Yet it is only a small minority who ever take the first step.

Our client Tom knew he needed to improve his eating habits but always procrastinated about taking the first step.

He was comfortable in his routines and couldn't be bothered to go through the process of adjusting to change.

But by taking small first steps, he was able to build some momentum and realize that change is okay: it is not a burden.

With that one step, Tom has since completely transformed his eating habits for the better, and has learnt to embrace and enjoy them.

For anyone, the first step to a better diet could really be as simple as reading an article, signing up to a newsletter that will educate and motivate you, eating one extra piece of fruit or salad a day, or taking up walking once a week.

So stop procrastinating, finding excuses and do something different today, right now!

Life is in the now!
