The BOLD Mindset vs. The GROWTH Mindset

Some books are just right for the time.

I'm reading BOLD given to me by my good friend and EnSpirit Global contributor Vanessa Louise Moore
In the book they talk about having a BOLD mindset

A BOLD mindset is one that sets big goals, are visionary and aligned with your values.

How is a BOLD Mindset different to a GROWTH Mindset?

Well it is important to say both are important.

The growth mindset is a simple idea discovered by world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck and it describes a mindset that is open to learning, trying new ideas, embraces challenge and takes on feedback.

The polar opposite of having a fixed mindset which is someone that gives up easily, sticks to what they know, don’t like a challenge and avoids failure at every juncture.

The Growth Mindset is something that I believe needs to be present if you are to have any success. This should be at the core of all education!

But a BOLD mindset is at another level.

There are certain characteristics that people with a BOLD mindset have, for example…

  • They know their worth
  • Its not if but when
  • It’s NEVER about them, its ALWAYS about the bigger picture
  • They WANT to help others succeed
  • They are GAME CHANGERS
  • They won’t accept NO for an answer
  • They see a world of ABUNDANCE
  • It’s NEVER just about the money
  • It’s LEGACY thinking
  • They accept CHANGE.
And it is this last one, that can be the deal breaker for many. We live in a time when we have more information published per minute on the internet now that in the early 90s.
The information being publish are new ideas, concepts, perspectives, opportunities and the one that is the most resisted but the one that HAS to be adopted those with BOLD mind-sets, that is technology.

Technology advances affect how we grow a business, develop products, find jobs build networks, advertise, create communication. But the resistance to change is tangible.

3 examples where tech and the advancement of tech WILL affect all our lives irrespective of your opinion is

  1. Artificial Intelligence
  2. Driverless Cars
  3. Augmented Reality

I won’t go into the detail of these in this blog, but the point here is that without BOLD mindsets these would not be part of our lives and without adoptive a BOLD mindset you will be part of the late adaptors and the last to benefit.

I don’t think there have been many people who have not heard of Google or even used it. When they launched they knew they weren’t just a search engine, THE place to search.

Their first homepage was just a search bar, with no adverts. And is has remained the same.

What is really interesting is that Google set out Eight Innovation Principals. In the book BOLD they highlight them…

  1. Focus on the User
  2. Share Everything
  3. Look for Ideas Everywhere
  4. Think Big but Start Small
  5. Never Fail to Fail
  6. Spark with Imagination, Fuel with Data
  7. Be a Platform
  8. Have a Mission That Matters
When I was reading these, I was choked. I was looking at my own vision for EnSpirit Global and I can relate to all of these.

I have often questioned myself, why do all this just be a coaching & training business and serve the world. Some has said to me, just focus on what you do and serve people. It didn't seem right.

I want work with other experts, game changers and thought leaders. Working together we can make a bigger impact. The world needs that.

Doing my own thing didn't feel enough.

I wanted to make a bigger impact. An impact that will go way beyond what I can think imaginable.

It's a slower burn, but I know this is what I was meant to do.

I can't and don't want to do this on my own. I can see now that I needed and have a BOLD mindset.

So assuming that you wouldn’t even contemplate a fixed mindset, do you have a growth mindset or a bold mindset?

Nothing wrong with a growth mindset, most of what you want to achieve can be achieved with a growth mindset, but to be bold and to have a bold mindset could take you to a place where even you could not contemplate before.

My role is to make sure all the people that encounter EnSpirit Global make and create the Game Changing Impact they want.
